About Beauport Law
Welcome to Beauport Law. I am an attorney with more than 25 years of legal and business experience. I opened Beauport Law in November 2017 after overseeing the operations of Gloucester Rental Center, Inc., a business my husband, Steve Malboeuf, owned for many years until his death in 2013. The following year, I decided to take a break from practicing law so that I could focus my energy on our then 12 year old daughter and work at keeping his business in the community. When the time was right, I sold the assets of the business in March of 2017 with the goal of getting back to the practice of law. Having my law practice in Gloucester is something my husband always wanted me to do and I am thrilled to be here.
Probably the most noticeable difference between having my own office and working for another firm is that I get to shape the business model. Unlike many law firms, I have all but abandoned the billable hour. Charging my time by the hour leaves the client uncertain about how much my help may cost. I want to remove that uncertainty and let the client focus instead on what they want to achieve, with the confidence that they will get exactly what they expect at an agreed to price.
My career has spanned a variety of settings – I clerked for a judge, worked at a large downtown Boston law firm, for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, and then spent almost 15 years with two well established North Shore law firms, where I concentrated in long term care and qualifying clients for MassHealth, estate administrations, estate and fiduciary tax and account matters, estate planning and residential real estate transactions.
I am a member of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Real Estate Bar Association. I am a member of the Board of Trustees of the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library, and of the Board of Trustees of Waring School, an independent school serving grades 6-12 in Beverly, MA. I am also a member of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs and Businesswoman’s Committees.
I live in Essex, MA with my 17 year old daughter, and have two wonderful step-daughters and their families nearby.
